Kuala Lumpur Geoscience Group, Geoscience Lecture Series 2023

Dr Mark Lisk, Ascendience Chief Geologist, is delighted to have the opportunity to review the use of fluid inclusion techniques to address common challenges facing oil and gas exploration and development as well as new applications relevant to the geological storage of CO2.

In previous roles with Australia’s National Science Agency, CSIRO, Mark developed patented new technology in the use of fluid inclusions for enhanced hydrocarbon exploration. This unique data provides insights into the fluid history of sedimentary basins to reveal new opportunities and constrain risk across exploration and development applications, to the assessment of potential for geological storage of CO2 and provide key constraints on potential geothermal resources. Widely used in the APAC region to constrain charge and retention risks in over 1000 wells, these techniques have been used sparingly in Asia despite clear opportunity to contribute critical answers across mature, emerging and frontier basin settings. We invite you to find out more how these methods can materially impact basin understanding and help to deliver new opportunities across the sedimentary basins of Asia.
