Geophor

A Compilation of Global Oil and Gas Field Analogues

Welcome to Geophor, an affordable database of experience that draws on decades of published data for oil and gas discoveries from around the globe and across geological time, covering a wide range of depositional settings, structural styles and play types.

Whatever your lead or prospect promises, the Geophor global database offers more than 1500 oil and gas fields that can be used to provide a geological metaphor to imagine the possibility but equally to avoid the potential pitfalls. Whether the aim is to calibrate input parameters to aid effective opportunity assurance for field development planning or to assess volume and risk parameters for exploration prospect screening, Geophor allows for rapid access to published information on oil and gas fields from sedimentary basins around the world.

“Without data you’re just another person with an opinion.”
Edwards Deming, Statistician

Categorised by geological setting, reservoir type and depositional age, Geophor enables efficient access to analogous oil and gas fields for almost any type of conceivable play. Spanning Proterozoic to Pleistocene, across non-marine to deep-marine depositional settings for both clastic and carbonate reservoirs there is plenty to constrain critical inputs for assurance needs and deliver the new ideas to yield the discoveries of the future

Introduction to Geophor Video

A public version of the Geophor database is available below to allow an inspection of the product utility, with a series of open layers to enjoy. May we suggest a walk through our collection of Super-Giant fields, this layer shares similar functionality to the subscription only layers. Or perhaps you could binge AAPG discovery thinking presentations covering decades of exciting new discoveries, essential viewing for all explorers.

Alternatively, if you’re on the hunt for iconic geo-tourism sites to ‘accidentally’ stumble across on your next family vacation, we have you covered, or perhaps delve into geological settings of the leading wine producing appellations of the world to explore the control of geology on wine ‘terroir’. Wine will never taste the same again!

The Geophor web-maps platform may be a bit slow to load, we have a lot of oil and gas fields to display. Once loaded use the map legend and information panels to search and display critical publications, when selecting records make sure you zoom in enough to allow an accurate mouse click. Zoom level is unrestricted for the public layers and you have full access to links to interesting publications. Subscription only layers have documents links disabled in this public version, but contain a rich data resource for our subscribers.
